The intention is to create deep relaxation, which will help speed healing, reduce pain, and decrease other symptoms one may be experiencing. Reiki can also be done “long-distance,” (shared in Reiki Level 2). The word “Reiki” is comprised of two Japanese words, Rei and Ki. An exact interpretation can be difficult when translating Japanese into English, there are many levels of meaning in the Japanese language.
Therefore, it’s important to keep in mind the context in which the word is being used when attempting to communicate its essence. In the framework of this course, we will use the definition handed down in the Usui tradition, Rei, meaning “Universal” and Ki, meaning “Life Force Energy”.
